I Want a Divorce...Now What? Your 5 Step Survival Guide

Your 5-Step Survival Guide

Divorce is one of the most emotionally charged and life-changing decisions you can make. This guide is here to help you take your first steps with clarity, confidence, and compassion. You don’t have to navigate this alone—these five steps will support you in getting grounded and moving forward.

Step 1: Breathe and Get Grounded

Before diving into logistics, take a deep breath. Acknowledge the emotions: fear, sadness, anger, maybe even relief. Give yourself permission to feel them. Then ask yourself: What do I need right now to feel safe and supported?

Step 2: Know Your Why

Write down the reasons this decision is right for you. When doubts creep in (and they will), your ‘why’ becomes your anchor. This isn’t about blaming—it’s about remembering your worth and honoring your truth.

Step 3: Protect Yourself Emotionally & Legally

Start documenting key financial and legal information. Reach out to a trusted therapist or coach for emotional support, and schedule a consultation with a divorce attorney—even just to understand your rights. Knowledge is power.

Step 4: Create a Support Circle

You don’t have to go through this alone. Tell one or two trusted friends or family members. If you don’t have that yet, join a support group or reach out to someone who’s been through it. Isolation makes healing harder.

Step 5: Focus on the Next Right Step

You don’t need to have it all figured out today. Take it one moment at a time. What’s the next right thing you can do today? Maybe it’s journaling, scheduling a clarity call, or simply taking a walk. Progress, not perfection.

You’ve got this. This isn’t the end—it’s the beginning of your next chapter. If you’re looking for a safe place to start your healing, I invite you to join me in my ‘Divorce Happens: Bounce Back’ course or book a free Clarity Call.

With love and strength,
