Hot Chocolate in June? Why Not
It’s been a rainy spring here in Ventnor, New Jersey—and now, I’ll be honest…
I love a good rainy day.
And here’s why:
There’s something about the sound of rain that invites you to slow down.
To light the candles.
Put on soft music.
Cuddle up with a book and just be.
But today, I wanted a little extra comfort. So I made myself a delicious cup of hot chocolate.
Yes—hot chocolate in June.
Well… almost June. We’re just one day away—I know!
When I asked my son Ari if he wanted one too, he looked at me and said:
“Hot chocolate? It’s June, bro.”
Yes, I go by many names—Mom, Bro, Big Lise—all said with love.
And that moment got me thinking…
So many of our comforts are tied to traditions, memories, and feelings.
For example, I grew up eating Chinese food every Sunday night. That tradition is so deeply ingrained that once, when a friend suggested Chinese food on a weeknight, I actually paused and thought:
Chinese food… not on a Sunday? What?!
It’s funny how much of our thinking is shaped by what’s always been done.
But I’m a seeker.
A seeker of what works now.
What brings me peace, comfort, and joy in the moment.
So yes—on this almost-June rainy day, I’ll take the hot chocolate, the marshmallows, and the cozy vibes.
So here’s a question for you this weekend:
What are you doing just because it’s always been done that way?
And what might happen if you permitted yourself to try something new, just because it feels good?
Wishing you comfort in whatever form it takes—
a cozy mug, a familiar tradition, or a brand new way of doing things.
Here’s to being a seeker,
to listening to your heart,
and to giving yourself exactly what you need.
With warmth and marshmallows,
Lisa
