Catch Your Way

Friday night, Johan Rojas—the Phillies’ centerfielder—made an incredible play.

Like most game nights, I was texting with my boys, Jacob and Ari.

We’re a sports family—Ari lives with me, and Jacob’s out in Utah, but our group texts keep us close.

I sent a message:

“OMG, what a play! That was epic!”

Jacob, ever the analyzer, responded:

“Really good catch—but he took a bad route. Might’ve been easier if he tracked the ball better.”

My reply? “I just liked the catch.”

And we moved on to texting about something else.

I didn’t argue.

I didn’t get defensive.

I simply saw it one way—he saw it another.

Two people, same moment, totally different takeaways.

And that’s not just okay—it’s great.

Because we’re not supposed to see the world the same way.

We all have different views, experiences, and ways of processing.

It got me thinking:

What if we stopped expecting people to see things our way—and instead appreciated that they see it their way?

Be like Rojas.

Make the catch your way.

Doesn’t have to be the “perfect route”—

Just has to be yours.
